In my last role, I was a student teacher at Wharekura mentoring, and teaching all levels of ākonga in Pangarau, Pūtaiao, and Te Reo Māori.

Through shared effort and experience I understood the impact an effective teacher could have on the community and developed a passion for understanding learning behaviours.
I have been involved with Careerforce | Te Pūkenga for almost 2 years and have been a part of many internal developments throughout the organisation during my time as a Kaiāwhina reo Māori.

What drove me to facilitate was the need to understand our services and product to truly understand my place in the team. I look forward to supporting ākonga Māori in health to better equip our communities.

Stick to that, the straight-flying cormorant, charge on!

Apprentice is driving whai ora on journey to wellness

Father of three and apprentice graduate, Te Mingi Elliott says, "I always wanted to give people the best chance in life." Te Mingi has just completed his Apprenticeship in Mental Health and Addiction Support. He says his success comes from a combination of Careerforce study sessions and noho marae, as well as support from his apprenticeship advisors Naida King and Alyssia Paekau.

Te Mingi works as a Tu Awhina (support worker) in Hamilton, and is supporting whānau or whai ora on their journey of recovery.
