Changes to the Apprenticeship in Community Facilitation specialising in Youth Work programme

Kia ora,

This email is to advise you of upcoming changes to the Careerforce Apprenticeship in Community Facilitation specialising in Youth Work programme.

This apprenticeship programme is being updated to reflect changes to the resulting qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4).

Careerforce has sought and listened to feedback, and has updated this programme to reflect directional changes occurring across the sectors. As well as a new name, the apprenticeship has additional modules to reflect updated learning and assessment needs to prepare youth workers for interactions through their practice as they work alongside young people/rangatahi, their families/whānau, their communities and within their workplace.

Key changes with the updated programme from 19 October:

  • The updated version of this programme opens on Wednesday 19 October and will be known as the Careerforce Apprenticeship in Whānau, Community and Social Services specialising in Youth Work.

  • This programme will lead to the awarding of the resulting qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) with a strand in Whānau, Community and Social Services.

  • Three new modules added to the programme:
    • APP104a ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi and My Role’
    • APP147 ‘The Mana Taiohi Framework’
    • APP105 ‘It’s About Relationships’

  • Three modules removed from the programme:
    • APP100 ‘Respecting You’
    • APP106 ‘Be Safe’
    • APP111 ‘Connect’

  • The credit value increases from 121 to 127 credits but the average expected duration of the apprenticeship programme remains 18 - 24 months.

Updated programme opens for enrolments on 19 October

All training agreements received from 19 October 2022 will be enrolled in the updated version of the programme (Apprenticeship in Whānau, Community and Social Services specialising in Youth Work).

If we receive a training agreement from you for an apprentice into the current version of the programme after 19 October, we will be in contact with you to confirm the enrolment.

For apprentices enrolled in the current version of the programme

Apprentices enrolled in the current version of the programme will be awarded the qualification once they have completed all the requirements as per normal. They will have until 31 December 2023 to complete all assessments in their current programme and for the assessments to have been registered as completed with Careerforce. Your Careerforce Apprenticeship Advisor will support them as much as possible to prioritise completion of their current programme.

We will shortly be communicating with current apprentices about their completion requirements.

Apprenticeship Boost Payments

In May 2022, the Government announced the extension of the Apprenticeship Boost fund through to December 2023. Employers can claim monthly payments of $500 per month, per apprentice. Employers are still required to claim these payments via MSD.

If you have any questions, please contact your Careerforce Apprenticeship Advisor.
