Introducing the new Dementia Care (LCP) Level 4 programme.

Kia ora,

This email is to advise you that Careerforce has developed a new Dementia Care (LCP) programme to replace the current Dementia LCP programme. Enrolments into this new programme will open on Thursday 23 June 2022.

The new Dementia Care (LCP) programme has been developed to reflect the changes in unit standards relating to dementia in the New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4) programme and the changes in the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard NZS 8134:2021.

Online and paper-based learning resources will be available through Aka Toi and on the Careerforce Resource Library.

Key changes with the new Dementia Care (LCP) (Level 4):

  • The programme title has changed from Dementia LCP to Dementia Care (LCP).
  • The average duration has reduced from 6 to 4 months.
  • Unit Standard 23922 (Manage the effects of providing support for people living with dementia in a health or wellbeing setting) has been replaced by Unit Standard 32416 (Demonstrate knowledge of support for family, whānau, and care partners of people living with dementia).

What remains the same?

  • Enrolment requirements will stay the same for the new Dementia Care (LCP) programme.
  • Trainees will continue to receive a certificate identifying which unit standards they have completed.

Enrolments closing for current Dementia LCP programme:

Enrolments into the current version of the Dementia LCP will close on 22 June 2022. If you have staff enrolled in this, they should still be able to complete the unit standards within the recommended time frame of 6 months.

ARRC / ARHSS Contracts

If you report on dementia unit standard enrolments and completions as part of your ARRC / ARHSS contracts with the Ministry of Health/DHBs, you can continue to report as usual, as both sets of unit standards meet the contract criteria.

If you have any questions about these changes, please don’t hesitate to talk to your Careerforce Workplace Advisor.
Ngā mihi,
The team at Careerforce
