Welcome to the first issue of Training for Good for 2022.

We just love to celebrate our trainees success. See how we recognised our wonderful graduates on the Careerforce Facebook page recently.

We've also included a great learning resource to help you make the most out of your study time. This is just one of a number of learning resources that will help make your training journey effective and successful.

Plus, read the amazing story about one of our recent graduates, Filimone ‘Tukai’ Rainibogi, who says losing his mobile phone was just the motivation he needed to complete his level 3 qualification.

Enjoy!

Celebrating our trainees on Facebook
In December we ran a competition, ‘Show us ya cert’. We asked recent graduates to post a photo of themselves with their Careerforce certificate for a chance to win a $150 grocery voucher.

Although we only asked for a photo, many entrants went on to write about how they enjoyed the learning journey and how thankful they were for the support they received to achieve their qualifications.

Thank you to everyone who shared their photos with us. You should all be super proud of your achievements.  A big congratulations to Cynthia Bunag Priddey who won $150 of grocery vouchers.

How to make the most out of your study time
We’ve developed a series of valuable learning resources to support you in your learning and study. Whether you’re new to learning, or coming back to learning after some time away, these resources will help make your training journey more effective and successful.
We know that juggling study with work, family and other commitments, can be a struggle. In Making the most of your study time, you'll find some tips on managing time and managing yourself to get the most out of your study time. Click the box below for more.

This is just one example of the great learning resources being developed. More resources are available here.

We'll be adding to these over time, so we encourage you to regularly visit this webpage.

Track your own training progress, anytime, anywhere

As a trainee you can now access Careerforce's iportal where you'll be able to view and download your own training progress reports.  You'll be able to see which unit standards you have completed, and which are yet to be completed.  Once logged into iportal, you can also click also on the 'Careerforce Resource Library' button on the header ribbon and access our learning materials on the library.

Since October, over 1,000 learners have already set up their
secure login iportal.  If you haven't already done so, we encourage you to do this promptly so that you are all set up for when you next want to check in on your training progress or access Careerforce learning resources.

Simply go to the iportal homepage here and click on 'Register a new account'. We've also prepared a helpful user guide that provides detailed instructions.

Need support with your training?
One way to keep motivated as we start the new year, is to check out the many supports available on the Careerforce website.
The training support section of the website gives advice not only for new learners to help get you started, but for those already on your learning journey, to help you stay engaged and motivated throughout.

Trainees can learn about the who, what and when of workplace training, your rights and responsibilities as a trainee, study tips, and more. You can find out how to access resources from the Careerforce Library and how to view and download your training progress reports. To see this and additional support, including an explanation on how the assessment process works, please visit this page: www.careerforce.org.nz/training-support

A lost mobile phone becomes graduate’s key to success
Besides a looming deadline, Filimone ‘Tukai’ Rainibogi says losing his mobile phone was just the motivation he needed to complete his level 3 qualification.

The Fiji-born Wellness Partner at Masterton’s Lansdowne Park Retirement Village has recently graduated with the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) (Health Assistance). Tukai started the programme in August 2017 and needed to have it completed by 31 August 2021. “I was given more than enough time,” he laughed.

Tukai’s biggest distraction to his studies was his mobile phone. So, when it dropped out of his car earlier this year and got lost, he said he was grateful for the push it gave him to finish his final assessments.

“I didn’t actually want to buy another phone, so I stayed for three months without one. In that time, I finished my studies and even started reading a book.

“It’s given me a gift that I had all along.”  You can read about Tukai's story here.

Tracking your progress on Aka Toi will now be easier!
From Monday 21 February, if you’re using Aka Toi (our online learning and assessment portal), you’ll be able to track your training progress easier than before!

Trainees have told us that they want an easier way to see which of their tasks have been submitted and, of those, which have been marked. So, we’re adding a new option to your Aka Toi dashboards called My Submission Status.

If you follow the My Submission Status dashboard from the homepage, you’ll get to see the status of each of the assessment tasks you have submitted.

You can navigate across each of the tabs from UNMARKED, MARKING, and MARKED. You’ll then see the module name, task name and date that it’s been marked.

You won’t be able to see if a task has been achieved - to see this, you’ll still need to go into the module and review the feedback and marks for the task.

Prizes, prizes, prizes!
Did we mention prizes?

Eva answers some of your common questions
Q. How long will it take to finish the training?
A.  The average expected duration for our training programmes ranges from 7 -24 months. However, how long it will actually take ultimately comes to you, and how well you can balance your home life, your work and your training commitments. At the outset, a training plan would have been developed and agreed between yourself, your assessor and employer, and we encourage you to stick to this as much as possible.

Remember that your workplace and the team at Careerforce
are here to support you. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Q. I don't know who my assessor is, how do I get started with my training?
A. It's best to ask your manager about who your assigned assessor is. Then organise to speak with your assessor about how training will work.

Ask for a training plan with a list of unit standards or modules that you must complete. Also discuss where you are going to access your learning and assessment resources.

If you’re using paper-based learning, speak to your assessor about accessing them from the Careerforce library via iportal
or if you're learning online, you will have received an email with instructions on how to log in to Aka Toi, our online learning platform.
