Important updates to the Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Orderly Services Strand

We are writing to you because you have staff enrolled in Careerforce’s Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Orderly Services Programme.

This is a reminder,
following our earlier email, advising that Careerforce is updating this programme and a new version will be released on 9 February 2022.

The update to Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Orderly Services programme version 2 will require employers to update their Training Plan registered with Careerforce (if not already completed).


Key information
  • Enrolments into the current version of the Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Orderly Services programme will close on Friday 3 February 2023.
  • The current version of the Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Orderly Services programme expires on 31 December 2023.
  • Trainees who are enrolled in the current version of the programme are encouraged to complete their assessments by mid-November to enable their results to be registered with NZQA before 31 December.
  • If trainees are unable to complete their current programme by the end of this year, they will be rolled over into the new version of the programme from 1 January 2024.

Changes to the updated version

There have been updates to the units in the programme in both the compulsory and elective sections. Download list of unit standards here.

Compulsory units: there is one new unit
  • US 32418 – Describe Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty of Waitangi, and a bi-cultural approach in a health or wellbeing setting

Elective units: there are three new units
  • US 27459 - Observe, describe and respond to changes in a person in a health or wellbeing setting
  • US 28536 - Apply health, safety, and security practices in a health or wellbeing setting
  • US 32419 – Apply Māori values and evaluate their application, when supporting tangata whai ora in a health or wellbeing setting

Elective units: in consultation with the sector, these units are no longer available
  • US 28543 – Describe culturally safe Māori operating principles and values (this unit is not available after 31.12.23)
  • US 23386 – Support a person to meet personal care needs
  • US 23389 – Describe risk management planning in a health or wellbeing setting

The new version of the programme will be available on paper via the Careerforce Resource Library. An online version is also available through our Aka Toi e-learning platform.
