Welcome to Careerforce's March 2025 update
Tēnā koutou

Following the recent consultation, the government continues their deliberations into the future structures for vocational education, and we currently expect a decision over April. Regardless of the outcomes, actual implementation of the associated changes will take considerable time, with any transitions into new structures not likely until well into 2026. So, and has been our mantra since the reform process began back in 2019, our focus remains steadfastly on our employers and learners.

Last month, I talked about the introduction of our Good to Go learner onboarding sessions, and I am very excited about the actual launch of these today. Any new trainees across February and March will have received invites to one of 4 sessions. Please encourage them to attend a session – the content shared via these online workshops will instil them with the confidence they need to commence their training, and truly ensure that they are good to go.

Finally, we recognise that times are tough out there, for both yourselves as employers, and also for your staff with the cost of living crunch. Check out the stories in this newsletter about the various grants available to support enrolment costs, the reduced enrolment fees in 2025 for our Health & Wellbeing and Cleaning L2/3 programmes, and also the continued availability of the Manaaki Fund to support financial hardship amongst our learners, your staff.

Ngā mihi

Learner onboarding sessions kick off today

Last month, we mentioned we’d be hosting monthly 'Good To Go' online onboarding sessions. These hour-long events are here to help and guide new learners, making their onboarding experience smoother and more enjoyable.

These online sessions are designed for newly enrolled trainees to learn about the expectations, learning tools, to ask questions, meet with other learners, and help set them off on the right track to begin achieving their unit standards towards their qualification.

Sessions are designed for Level 2 & 3 learners, as well as Level 4 Dementia Care LCP and Advanced Care and Support learners.

The first four sessions are taking place this week. New learners have been sent invitations to register and we encourage you to support them to attend. For more information and to see the upcoming schedules, click the 'read more' button below.

2024 employer survey results

As we finalise the reporting and analysis around our eighth annual employer survey, we are continuing to drip-feed further survey highlights, following the earlier sharing of our record satisfaction results. This month, we are sharing results around how well Careerforce programmes meet the needs of our employers:

  • 93.2% of employers indicated that Careerforce programmes either met or exceeded their organisation’s workforce development needs. Just 2.6% felt they did not meet (4.2% did not know).
(This is up from 87.8% when we first asked this question back in 2017).

  • 90.3% of employers indicated that Careerforce programmes either met or exceeded their workplace requirements. Just 2.4% felt they did not meet (7.2% did not know).
(This is up from 85.4% when we first asked this question back in 2017).

"Careerforce training programmes are exceptionally well-aligned with our workforce development needs. They consistently deliver high-quality, relevant training that supports our organisation's growth and enhances the skills and capabilities of our team."

"The assessments in Careerforce training programmes are exceptionally well-designed, aligning seamlessly with workplace requirements. They effectively reinforce practical skills and knowledge, ensuring learners are well-prepared to excel in their roles."

Supporting all learners: empowering diverse abilities and needs

At Careerforce, we want all learners to have the skills and confidence to do well.

We focus on understanding and respecting the different needs and challenges of disabled learners, or learners who just need a bit of extra help.

We work with a group of people who have lived experience to make sure our programmes are easy to use and helpful. We also try to find out the needs of disabled learners or those struggling with English early in their learning.

Our online platform, Aka Toi, is always being updated to help learners with different needs. We also give advice on tools that can support learners and we help them use these tools. We also offer more time to finish assessments if needed.

If your learners need any extra support, please contact your Careerforce Workplace Advisor. We will do our best to help your learners succeed.
