Ko Damon Harrison ahau

With Rick Sloman’s recent departure, I have been offered the position of Manager Moderation and Assessment Practice team. It is an extraordinary privilege to step into the role and ensure that the team continues to support all Careerforce registered assessors up and down the country. My name or face may be familiar, as I have been in the role of National Moderator since September 2017.

While this message comes to you at still difficult times, let me please reiterate Careerforce’s position of support during this time. We are still here to provide all the services we always have and are adapting our practices to better meet the needs of all our clients via distance and online means. If we can support you in any way, please continue to get in touch by all your usual means.

Damon Harrison
    Thank you for your engagement
The team would like to thank all those who responded to our recent Moderation and Assessment Practice Services Survey. We appreciated the feedback provided, it’s great to hear from you and it has given us some great pointers. We will look to incorporate this feedback into our practices and hope you will recognise some of our changes soon.
      Careerforce Assessment and Moderation Procedures
The latest versions of the Careerforce Assessment Procedures and the Moderation Procedures are available on our website.

These manuals have been developed to ensure consistency and meet compliance requirements. We encourage you to take a look.

The Careerforce Assessment Procedures can be found here.
The Moderation Procedures can be found here.
Initial Assessor Training and Moderation Workshops
At this time, we are uncertain when we can offer our face to face workshops again.

We have to adapt and make some changes as to how we deliver the Initial Assessor Training Workshops for new assessors.  We have begun offering this training as a series of workshops through remote/distance learning.
All successful applicants will be emailed a survey one month prior to the workshop start date to determine the applicant’s capability and suitability for remote learning. The individual’s training plan will be determined once the survey has been completed and submitted.
Unfortunately, all Peer Moderation Workshops have been cancelled at this point.  We are looking at our schedule for the rest of the year and will be emailing invitations to the workshops once they resume.

In the meantime, you can submit your moderation by post or email.  Please either email your moderation samples to moderation@careerforce.org.nz or post to:

      Careerforce
      Level 1
      189 Willis Street
      Wellington 6140
      Attn: National Moderators

If you are submitting  Aka Toi samples for moderation, please email moderation@careerforce.org.nz with the information to the right:

      1. Make sure the assessment is completed with all attachments and evidence uploaded.
      2. Enter “Aka Toi Moderation” in the email subject line.
      3. Provide Trainee name/s and unit standard numbers/module names in the text of the email.
      4. Give us your full name and your assessor number.
      New changes in iportal
You may have noticed some changes on the iportal 'Enter Results' page layout.  The 'View results entered' page has been updated with additional instructions for assessors to see the trainee result status. This has been done so that you have a more accurate reason if the result has an issue.  The current result issues are:

      1. The assessment date is outside of the assessor’s registration period.
      2. The unit standard is outside of the assessor’s registration scope
      3. The assessment date is more that nine months old when submitted
      4. An expired unit standard version is submitted

These issues are monitored daily by Assessment Operations and we will be in contact to resolve the issue. Please have a look and let us know if you require any assistance.
This newsletter is sent to all Careerforce registered assessors.  Archive copies can be downloaded from the Careerforce website.  Follow this link and scroll down to view and download archive newsletters:
